Former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has advised the leadership and membership of the party, to accept the outcome of just concluded elections in good faith and work in reviving the strength of the party for future election.
Bamanga in an interactive session with journalists in Yola at his residence yesterday observed that lack of internal democracy in the party brought the set back the party is experiencing presently.
According to him, he has been advocating for its entrenchment in the party for a long time regretting that the failure to heed his advice led to the unsavory defeat the party suffered.
“We have been preaching election not selection, internal democracy not imposition. Anywhere it was done, it will leave a bitter pill in the mouth,’’ Tukur noted.
While congratulating president elect, governors and legislatures, Tukur charged them to ensure that peace and unity prevails in the country noting that they the prerequisites to an enduring development.
“We like to congratulate elected leaders and legislators who came successful and for those who participated but could not make it, there is another contest. I salute all of them,’’ Tukur said.
He implore all PDP members to remain steadfast and not allow the defeat to affect their morale adding that elections are like football competitions in which one team may emerge winner today and the defeated team may emerge winner tomorrow.
Tukur urged party members to go back to the drawing board re-stratagize and address the wrongs they committed for the party to regain its lost glory and winning streak.
He commended Nigerians for their peaceful conduct during the polls adding that that feat has saved the country from implosion considering the tension that has built before the conduct of the polls.
