ACF ACCUSES JONATHAN OF PLOTTING AGAINST BUHARI

• Says power, fuel scarcity, others are booby traps
The umbrella organisation of the North, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), yesterday accused the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration of deliberately creating obstacles for President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, with the worsening energy crisis in the country.
The ACF, in its reaction whi
ch came hours to the inauguration of the Buhari government tomorrow, said the fuel scarcity and the worsening power supply nationwide were capable of hindering the smooth take of the new administration.
Specifically, the ACF, in a statement made available to Newswatch Times in Kaduna and signed by Muhammad Ibrahim, its National Publicity Secretary, said Jonathan’s deliberate actions were aimed at creating booby traps for the Buhari government. The ACF’s statement issued after its monthly National Executive Council meeting in Kaduna, chaired by former Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Coomassie, said “President Jonathan’s recent knack for sacking aides, chief executives, making frivolous appointments, awarding contracts and revoking or even relocating some projects at this zero hour of his administration are morally wrong and a negation of his earlier statesman posture.”
The statement, which calls for understanding and patience of Nigerians with the incoming Buhari government, also noted that, “Few days to the handover of government to the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and, indeed, Nigerians are worried and disturbed at the rate the Nigerian state is being grounded by actions and inactions of the outgoing Jonathan’s administration.
“After President Jonathan conceded defeat to Buhari, he has at every occasion pledged to cooperate with Gen Buhari to ensure a smooth transition. However, ACF has observed with dismay the actions and inactions of the Jonathan’s administration in the last two months which failed to make the transition smooth as promised.
“The recent revelation by the Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, that despite the huge amount ($61.7 billion about N12.3 trillion) earned from oil and other sources in the four years of President Jonathan, the Federal Government has been borrowing to pay salaries and allowances, thereby incurring heavy debt for the incoming administration.
“ACF considers this a total failure on the part of the minister to manage our economy despite her touted experience and financial expertise.
“The present energy crisis engulfing the nation due to scarcity of petroleum products nationwide, as a result of the strike embarked upon by oil marketers and workers, for alleged non-payment of their dues by the Federal Government, has virtually crippled the economy and put untold hardship on Nigerians.
“This has seriously affected power generation and distribution, transportation system, telecommunications, banking, water supply and other sectors of the economy. In fact, the situation is terrible, worrisome and capable of shutting down the country. Certainly, Nigerians do not deserve such a parting gift from President Jonathan after he has earned himself a global applause for statesmanship.
“All these unwarranted hardships, including the persistent insecurity, which the outgoing regime will bequeath to Gen Buhari appear to be deliberate and calculated to hinder the smooth take-off of the new administration.
“ACF, therefore, calls on Nigerians to be patient, supportive and cooperate with Gen Buhari as he takes over a government burdened with crisis on Friday 29th May, 2015. The damage done to all facets of our national life in the last six years is so grave and will require patience on the part of Nigerians and wisdom on the part of Gen Buhari’s administration to tackle.”
