Governor of Imo State and Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum, Rochas Okorocha, speaking on behalf of the delegation, said although the region could not be delivered to Buhari in the presidential election, they were able to cut-down over the 7.2million votes the PDP had projected to get from the region.
“We (South East APC) are more victorious than you are on your victory at the presidential election. Many of us would have gone on exile if you had lost. Although we could not deliver the south east to you, what we were able to do however, was to cut down the damages of 7.2million votes the PDP had projected to get from the southeast,” Okorocha said.
While expressing the hope that Buhari’s government will be successful and as well support the cause of the Southeast, Okorocha appealed that the region should be considered for the position of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. “We know that we’ve lost out for the position of senate presidency because we did not have a ranking senator returned to the National Assembly. We, however, appeal and we believe that you will be generous enough to consider the south east region to be considered for the position of the SGF.”
He further said that the South East region has also unanimously agreed that the former National Chairman of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) , Ogbonnaya Onu should be elevated and be recognised as the leader of the party in the southeast. In his remark, Onu, expressed the view that Buhari’s victory has brought respite to the entire nation. “Nigeria is more united now than before the elections. The division that existed in the country now had been ridden off due to Buhari’s victory.
