LOKOJA—Former Governor of Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, has said that he would heed the call of the people of the state to contest the forthcoming governorship election slated for October this year in the state.
Audu who spoke yesterday at his Ogbonicha country home in Ofu Local Government Area of the state at a victory reception he organised for the All Progressives Congress, APC, national and state assemblies members-elect in the state said the state was his ‘’baby’’ which he would not abandon.
“The voice of men are the voice of God, the people are yearning for me to come back because of my performance between 1999 and 2003.
A lot of people have been wallowing in abject poverty with Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in power in the state. A lot of people are dying in the midst of many. As a matter of fact, Kogi is my baby and if I turn my back against my baby, it means I am an irresponsible father.
“I am coming back to salvage; rescue the state and place it back to where I left it in 2003 and even go beyond that. Crude oil was selling between $9 to $12 during the state,” he said.
Audu who said the performance of the APC in the past general election in the state was a pointer that the party would win the governorship poll, also hinted that the President -elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd, would not disappoint the nation.
“We have just finished the state assembly, National Assembly and presidential elections and we performed very well. We are prepared for the governorship election in the state. Even if it is tomorrow, APC would win the election.
“With the emergence of General Buhari; a well disciplined manager and a great leader, things would come to shape in Nigeria. The problem of the country is that the nation has had bad and non prudent managers in the past.
“Though the people’s expectations are so high but what Buhari would do in four years would be more than PDP’s 16 years of misrule,” he added.
