THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum will meet soon with the possible confirmation of Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State as its chairman topping its agenda.
It would be the first time they would be meeting as a forum since the election of new governors and the takeover of the Federal Government by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the coordinator of the forum, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, who spoke to reporters in Abuja, on Friday, the members are expected to confirm Mimiko as its chairman.
Onaiwu revealed that nine PDP governors had met informally to agree on the candidature of Mimiko as the forum's chairman.
He explained that the meeting of the forum had been delayed to enable members of the forum to participate in the negotiations for the new leadership of the National Assembly.
Asked if other governors were not interested in leading the forum, the PDP Governors’ Forum coordinator said the coming meeting would determine if there was such interest.
“I am aware that about nine of them have already thrown their support behind Mimiko to lead the forum, because they said they want very steady and organised hands now that the PDP is in opposition,” he added.
