… as students resume Monday
Barely a week after the students of Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, went on protest, insisting that the school must come up with their exact school fees, the management of the institution yesterday released new figures.
This was based on the 34 to 60 per cent reduction of the fees, as announced by the state government, for students across different faculties.
The new fees, which have been approved by the school’s Governing Council, in a release by the institution’s spokesman, Mr. Kayode Sutton, now ranges between N76,250 for a final year students in the Arts (49.3 per cent reduction) and N158,250 for a 200-level Engineering and Medical (Direct entry) students.

UNIONS JOIN LASU STUDENTS’ PROTEST AGAINST FEE HIKE
Business activities were halted yesterday in Alausa, the seat of power in Lagos State, as the Joint Action Front (JAF) and Education Rights Campaign (ERC) joined the protest by the Lagos State University (LASU) students against hike in tuition fee and the partial resumption of students.
The protest started at about 7:20am at the Textile Garment House with hundreds of LASU students marching and singing war songs on the Agindigbi road via Awolowo road.
They stormed the House of Assembly to express their grievances over what they called “outrageous school fees”.

Barely four weeks after university lecturers under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) called-off their five months strike, lecturers of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, have threatened a showdown with the university Management over issues bordering on welfare, facilities and tuition fees.
The union alleged that several letters written and meetings with the Management, Governing Council and the Lagos State Executive Council Ad-hoc Committee have failed to address the issues, noting that danger lies ahead for the long-term prosperity of the university, if nothing is done.

LASU KILLINGS: 34 ARRESTED STUDENTS FACE EXTRA YEAR
No
fewer than 34 students of the Lagos State University have missed the first
semester examinations which began on Monday.
The students are currently in police
detention following the killings of two students of the institution.
The implication of this is that the
students will automatically carry over all their courses.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the
development could also lead to some of them having extra year because some of
the courses must be passed before advanced level of the courses could be
studied.

LASU RIVAL CULT CLASH: ANOTHER STUDENT KILLED, MORE ARRESTED

Barely
three days after a final year Banking and Finance student of the Lagos State
University, LASU, Damilola Olaniyan (alias Damoche), was killed by suspected
cultists, another undergraduate student simply identified as Kabiru, has again
been shot dead.
Sources
told National Mirror that Kabiru was killed at about 10.00pm on Sunday at
Abeokuta Street, Okokomaiko, Lagos. It will be recalled that the 25-year-old
hip-hop singer, popularly referred to as Damoche, who was alleged to be a
member of ‘Eiye Confraternity,’ was killed last Thursday at about 4.00pm at the
university gate in Ojo area of Lagos, by suspected members of ‘Buccaneer’ cult
group. Prior to the incident, National Mirror also gathered that three cult
groups, Eiye Confraternity, Black Axe and Buccaneer have been drawn in a battle
of supremacy for the soul of the university.

CULTISTS KILL MUSICIAN AT LASU
Some suspected cult members operating on a motorcycle allegedly shot and killed a student of the Lagos State University while the latter was leaving the school through the Iba Gate on Thursday.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the deceased, Damilola Olaniyan, was an upcoming Hip Hop artiste who went by the pseudonym Damino Damoche.
According to reports, Olaniyan, a student of Banking and Finance, was killed after writing a test at Faculty of Management Science.
A student of the institution, who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said the deceased had a misunderstanding with some members of a cult group over an undisclosed issue.
The source added that after shooting the deceased, the attackers also stabbed him repeatedly.
