Over 350 political aides of Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, are battling security personnel over identity crises. This is because it has been difficult for security personnel to identify them at state events. Worried by the development, Dickson was said to have directed that the aides obtain identity cards from the office of the Secretary to the State Government to check the embarrassing situation.
Investigations by Sunday Mirror revealed that some of the
Governor’s aides which included Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special
Assistants, Special Assistants, among others, had been engaged in quarrels with
security personnel over claims and counterclaims of recognizing their status.
It was gathered that a similar incident occurred last Tuesday at
the swearing- in of a Commissioner, Mrs. Didi Walson –Jack and Chairmen and
members of statutory boards at the gate of Government House banquet hall.
It was learnt that few aides of the governor reportedly engaged
some security personnel in quarrels at the gate as they were barred from
entering the venue. Te security personnel had insisted that they should
properly identify themselves with their identity cards which they failed to
produce.
The intervention of one of the commissioners who observed the
bitter quarrels and personally identified the aides saved the situation.
