Bayelsa breaks silence on Dickson’s whereabouts

Almost one month after Governor Seriake Dickson’s absence became a subject of speculation, the Bayelsa State government has broken its silence on his whereabouts.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Fred Agbedi, who addressed journalists in Yenagoa on Friday in his office to clear the air, explained that the governor travelled to London for both private and official reasons.
The absence of Dickson had been a subject of speculation in the state.
Agbedi said it became imperative for the governor to embark on medical trip to the United Kingdom because he had not rested since the 2011 elections in which he contested and won a second term ticket to the House of Representatives and later the February, 2012 governorship election process which he, again, emerged victorious on the platform of the PDP.
“Contrary to speculations in some quarters, we wish to clarify that His Excellency, Governor Seriake Dickson, is away in London for private and official purposes. He needs a deserved rest.
“The governor has not rested since the election processes for the 2011 election and later the 2012 governorship election which he won. He has not rested since he won second term ticket to the House of Representatives and the governorship election this year,” Agbedi said.
Asked why the government did not inform the people of the state before the governor travelled for medical trip, Agbedi said there was no law that compelled him to notify the people that he would be jetting out to London for medical treatment.
While reiterating that there was no disruption in governance because the deputy governor, John Jonah, had been directing affairs, Agbedi assured that Dickson would return to Bayelsa very soon and urged the people to continue to support the restoration agenda of the administration.
