Bloody Sunday in Lagos as robbers held the state hostage for hours


Three policemen were among 10 persons killed yesterday when a band of dare devil robbers took Lagos by storm.
The robbers, who operated in two jeeps launched their assault on the metropolis from Gbagada where they attacked currency changers and snatched bags of cash.

They also stole recharge cards and shot at an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency LASTMA.
As the robbers were leaving Gbagada they shot a man right inside his car.
From Gbagada, they stormed Agege where they killed four persons and shot two money changers who tried to resist them.
A police patrol team went after the robbers, caught up with them and engaged them in a gun duel at Guinness. The robbers who according to eyewitnesses were six men and a woman  had the upper hand killing three policemen. Even with the dead policemen, the robbers were not through with their onslaught on the city.
In Alfa Nla area still in Agege they shot a six year old girl in her eyes and her grandmother while both were watching TV in their room. With no opposition, the robbers sped through the Alakuko and shot at a police man at the Ajegunle area.
Commissioner of Police Umar Manko confirmed the death of the three policemen.
Lagosians were shocked to their marrow when the news of the robbers’ rampage spread through town because for a very long time the city had been free from armed robbery on this scale.
