Boy, 17 stages own kidnap in Delta

Police in Delta State have arrested a 17 year-old boy who allegedly staged his own kidnap.

Daily Trust learnt that the boy, Daniel AKagbo, connived with kidnappers in Effurun, near Warri, Delta State, and pretended that he had been kidnapped so that he could collect money from his father.

It was gathered that the boy called his father, saying that he was being tortured by kidnappers in a shrine in Obiaruku in Ukwani Local Government Area of the state.  A source said, the boy’s father reported the matter to the police, who consequently swung into action. The state’s Police Command’s spokesman, Mr. Charles Muka, while confirming the story yesterday said the anti- kidnap squad got information that one Governor Ejiro led the team that kidnapped the “victim”. Muka said the police trailed them to the shrine where Governor Ejiro was arrested with others, while the boy was “rescued”.

He said during interrogation, the police discovered that the boy connived with the others to dupe his father of N20 million.
