I Didn’t Steal N47bn From Intercontinental Bank – Akingbola

Former Managing Director of the defunct Intercontinental Bank Plc (now Access Bank) Erastus Akingbola has denied ever stealing the sum of N47.1 billion from the bank as alleged by the Economic and Finacial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Akingbola made the denial while testifying before Justice Habeeb Abiru of a Lagos State High Court sitting in Lagos yesterday. The former bank chief, who is standing trial alongside Bayo Dada, the General Manager of Tropics Securities, a company allegedly owned by Akingbola, were charged to court for allegedly stealing the sum of N47.1 billion from the bank.
When Akingbola was called into the witness box to defend the charges preferred against him, Akingbola said EFCC allegation against him was false, incorrect and malicious.
While being led in evidence by his counsel, Felix Fagbohungbe (SAN), Akingbola said he never authorised or benefited from any of the transactions for which he is being prosecuted.
