No fewer than 150 police
recruits have been dismissed from the Kaduna Police College, Kaduna, for
abnormalities contrary to Police Act and Regulations, a police source, who
asked not to be named in print.
The source said the authorities
had been dismissing recruits since last week, and that the last exercise in
which no less than 150, mostly women, were shown the way out of the college,
was carried out Wednesday morning.
He added that most of them were
found to be pregnant and many others over aged and others found with fake
academic certificates.
“Yes, I can confirm to you that
it happened and we have been doing it. For instance, on June 11, we conducted
screening on heights and over age, it also involves screening of specialist
recruits, and at the end, no fewer than 150 were dismissed,” he said.
On the latest one, he said:
“There was screening on female pregnancy and over-age issue, 19 were found
pregnant along with the rest which bring the total number to about 150; that
was on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday another exercise took place, and in the
process 29 were affected.”
Attempts made by this reporter
to speak to the Commandant, Sunusi Rufai, were unsuccessful, but some of the
affected recruits said some of them were wrongly dismissed, and that they would
appeal their sack at the Police Headquarters, Abuja.
One of them, who refused to
give his name, said, “It is true that some of us have problems, but it is wrong
to expel us without thorough investigation.
“We started training in October
last year, and will pass out by December 2012. How can you dismiss me without
sufficient proofs? All my documents are correct, and we are going to Abuja
today.”
