Official state house photographers today released undated photos depicting President Goodluck Jonathan leaving Nigeria's capital Abuja to the United Nation's General Assembly in New York on Sunday. Ostensibly, the presidency released the photos to dispel reports that Mr. Jonathan secretly flew out of Abuja last night to visit his ailing wife in Germany.
The
three photos show some Nigerian officials including the Secretary to the
Federal Government, Pius Anyim, bidding Jonathan goodbye with a handshake with
Mr. Jonathan. Also, several ministers, service and police chiefs also stood and
waited to bid the president goodbye at the airport.
SaharaReporters
ran a quick Exchangeable Image File (Exif) scan through the three photos to
determine the camera equipment, time and date they were taken. The scan shows
that the photos were taken with a NIKON D300 camera, however EXIF shows that
the photos had 2011 dates. Curiously, the camera was not programmed
to a correct date.
Also,
it could be noted that the president was departing in a Gulfstream aircraft
while our source said a bigger Boeing business jet had departed last night.
It
is unclear if today's departure was covered by the news media.
