“Don’t bottle it up”: Stella Damasus speaks against sexual abuse

Actress and singer Stella Damasus-Aboderin intensified her fight against sexual molestation and all forms of abuse on Monday at a programme organised by her organisation, ADIVA.
She urged all victims of abuse not to hesitate in reporting cases to relevant agencies so as to bring offenders to justice.
Damasus-Aboderin advices mothers to maintain an open line of communication with their children, especially the female ones, so that they can be free to report any abuse experienced.
According to her: “Many parents have bottled up cases of rape that their daughters have gone through due to the fear of being stigmatised by the society.
“Cases like this, should be reported, so that the offenders can be brought to book and debarred him from continuing such acts against other people,” she added.
Dorathy Njemanze, the founder of the Dorothy Njemanze Foundation also spoke about the need for a stronger and more open relationship between mothers and children so that prompt actions can be taken against abuse.
She said, “If you are a mother, and your daughter cannot confide in you, then you are a failure.”
She reportedly advised women to utilize various avenues of reporting cases of abuse established by government and several non-governmental organisations.
