A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Rueben Abati, said the committee was given one year to conclude its task.
The committee is empowered to raise funds in support of
President Goodluck Jonathan's administration efforts to provide relief for
those affected by the disaster and plan post flooding impact rehabilitation of
the victims and affected states.
The committee has Aliko Dangote and Olisa Agbakoba as
Co-Chairman, with Mike Adenuga, as Chief Fund Mobilizer.
Others members are Karami Isiaku Rabiu, Mohammed Indimi, Ngo
Hannatu Cholum, Folorunsho Alakija, Dora Akunyili, Tony Elumelu, the
Secretary-General, Nigerian Red Cross, Representative of C.A.N, Representative
of N.S.C.I.A, Representative of the UNDP, Representative of the European Union,
Representative of DFID, and Representative of USAID.
Federal Permanent Secretaries, including those of the Federal
Ministry of Environment, Water Resources, Works, Agriculture, Health, Finance
and National Planning, are members of the committee.
The committee membership also include Director-General NEMA, Ag.
Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, and Permanent Secretary,
Ecological Funds Office.
Others are Chairman, Senate Committee on Special Duties,
Chairman, House Committee on Environment, Rep., Nigerian Union of Journalists,
Rep., National Council of Women’s Societies, Mr. Tunde Lemo, (Representing the
CBN), Fatima Wali, Frank Nweke Jnr. and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa
Terms of Reference of the Committee includes to raise funds to
complement government’s resources for the provision of relief to flood victims
across the country and the post-impact rehabilitation of affected persons and
communities.
The Committee which is also expected to advise government on the
judicious utilization of funds raised, has been authorized by President
Jonathan to co-opt any other persons or organizations that it may find useful
in carrying out its assignment.
