IBA conference: Senator in sex scandal in Dublin

Members of the Nigerian community in Dublin, Ireland are angry with the elite from their homeland over their undesirable conduct in the just ended International Bar Association (IBA) conference. Dublin, the Irish capital played host to this year’s edition of the conference. It held between September 30, and Friday, October 5.

The IBA Annual Conference is the largest gathering of the international legal community in the world. The rally of more than 4,000 lawyers and legal professionals from around the world served more than 180 working sessions,  covering all areas of practice relevant to international legal practitioners.
It offered an opportunity to generate new business with the leading firms in the world’s key cities. It featured up to 25 hours of continuing legal education and continuing professional development and a variety of social functions while providing ample opportunity to network and see the city’s key sights

But what the Nigerian community in Dublin witnessed of the Nigerian delegation was, to put it mildly, was shocking, as gathered by The Nigerian Compass on Saturday.

Our source also disclosed that Lagos State Governor, Raji Babatunde Fashola, SAN, Ekiti State’s Attorney-General, Dapo Akinlaja, SAN, several commissioners from the South-West of Nigeria, lawyers and legislators graced the occasion

According to a reliable source, a number of Nigerian dignitaries, who left the shores of the country for the conference, did not participate in the conference.

It was learnt that, unlike their counterparts in other parts of the world, a number of eminent lawyers and notable public functionaries engaged in heavy shopping and debasing adventures while the conference lasted.

The source informed The Nigerian Compass on Saturday that a serving Senator from Delta State who is also a lawyer, on first day of the conference, checked into Maldron Hotel, Cardiff Lane, Dublin City Center, with an Ireland-based Nigerian lady of easy virtue.

“He, however, abandoned the prostitute after the first night of hot, steaming sexual escapade. And for three days, which the Senator paid for with our Nigerian tax payers’ money, he left the lady there, and went off with another woman to another hotel in the city.

The woman stayed there, crying. But it is not the weeping of the woman that is of concern to me. Rather, the fact that the Senator, like most others who came, did not go for any of the conferences. All through, he was in the hotel with a woman. So did many of them,” said the source.

Since the conference ended, the attitude of the elected public official has been generating condemnations within the Nigerian community in Dublin.

Last night at a parting party held for Nigerian participants in Charlton Hotel, Tyrellston, Dublin  15, Ireland, out correspondent, like most Nigerians in Dublin were full of fury at the number of delegates from their country, which did not correspond with the number they saw at the conference’s round –table sessions.

Already, Nigerians who are displeased about this unsavoury development have been calling for investigation into the alleged abuse of public trust and wastage of estacodes.
