The
Lagos State Government has arrested 33 people for hanging on moving trains.
The 33 people hanging on the train
were arrested on Friday in Ikeja and Agege areas by a combined team of
policemen attached to the state Task force on Environmental Offences
(Enforcement) Unit and the Nigeria Railway Police Command.
The raid was the government’s response to public outcry on the habit of many Lagosians, who like
hanging on trains on a daily basis across the metropolis.
It was learnt that the Nigeria Railway
Corporation had sought the assistance of the state to curb the trend.
Taskforce Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman,
said the state government had declared zero tolerance for hanging on trains.
He said, “The taskforce will continue
to monitor train movements in the state. Anyone apprehended hanging on trains
will be arrested.
“Hanging on trains constitutes
environmental nuisance, which must not be allowed to go on unchallenged in a
mega city like Lagos.
“The task force will continue its raid
on train hikers until further notice.”
