An
unemployed man, Bode James, 29, was on Wednesday arraigned for allegedly being
in possession of fake 9,750 dollars (N1,462,500).
James,
who is of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of being in possession
of fake dollars and dangerous charms before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court,
Lagos.
The
accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The
prosecutor, Sgt. Soji Ojaopomo told the court that James was arrested with 195
pieces of fake 50 dollars without lawful authority.
He
said that the accused was also found in possession of some dangerous charms
with intent to use it to commit crime.
The
prosecutor said that the accused was arrested with the fake dollars and charms
on Sept. 12 at about 4 p.m. at Layinka Road, Amukoko, Apapa in Lagos, during a
police stop and search exercise.
Ojaopomo
said that the offences contravened Sections 133 (b) and 370 of the Criminal
Code Laws of Lagos, 2011.
The
Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja granted James bail in the sum of
N50,000, with one surety in like sum.
She
said that the surety should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State
Government as part of the bail condition.
Adelaja
adjourned further hearing in the case to Oct.15.
