The
authorities of Horst Schmidt Klinik in Wiesbaden, the German hospital where
Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of the President is receiving treatment, have said
that the ailing first lady is still unfit to leave her bed and return to
Nigeria.
This
information on the health status of Mrs. Jonathan was obtained by LEADERSHIP
SUNDAY correspondent in the United States had a telephone conversation with a
key official of the German hospital.
The
source, who has been giving updated information to the correspondent on the
health condition of the ailing first lady, said that the consultant working
with Mrs. Jonathan had two weeks ago told her husband when he first visited her
in Germany that she could not be treated in a undisclosed hotel, which
President Jonathan had allegedly suggested.
There
were reports last Wednesday that the first lady would return to Nigeria the
next day. The reports
were however retracted.
Checks
by our foreign correspondent indicated that President Jonathan had directed
that all the security aides attached to her to vacate the hospital premises and
go to a yet to be identified hotel in Germany in order to prevent further
leakage of information on the first lady’s health.
LEADERSHIP
SUNDAY further learnt that the decision was not unconnected with the
information about President Jonathan’s first secret visit to his wife that got
leaked to journalists in Nigeria shortly after he arrived in New York for the
just concluded 67th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
This,
it was also learnt, accounted for the reason the President cancelled a
scheduled press conference with Nigerian journalists based in the United States
during his visit to New York for the General Assembly meeting.
