The
apex student body in the federation, National Association of Nigerian Students,
NANS, have called on the Federal and Rivers State governments to bring those
responsible for the murder of the four students of University of Port-Harcourt
to justice so as to forestall future occurrences.
The
association while condemning the gruesome killing of the undergraduates in Aluu
Community of Rivers State described the act as “inhumane, barbaric and uncalled
for.”
It
threatened that if the federal government failed to meet its demand, the
student body would have no other option than to use its constitutional powers
to agitate for the rights of the slain students.
In
a statement signed by NANS public relations officer, Clement Olusegun which was
made available to journalists in Abeokuta, the association threatened to shift
its secretariat temporarily to Port Harcourt to enable it coordinates a
peaceful protest.
“NANS
outrightly condemns the address by President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday, 9th
October without any mention of the Uniport incident or condolence message to
the families.
“NANS
is in consultation with human right activists, after which we would move to
University of Port-Harcourt to stage a peaceful protest against the killing of
the four students who were accused of stealing in Aluu community of Rivers
State.
