No
fewer than 10 persons, including a pregnant woman, yesterday died in a fatal
accident, involving 18-seater bus and a tipper lorry in Asaba, the Delta state
capital.
It was gathered that the tipper was
trying to connect the highway when the bus rammed into the tipper along the
Asaba-Ibusa Road at about 6.45pm.
According to an eyewitness, the bus
was on a top speed heading towards Ibusa from Asaba end of the road.
According to an eyewitness, the bus
compressed into the tipper, just as a crane belonging to a construction
company, according to a source, had to be used to drag it from the tipper
before rescue mission could commence.
It was further gathered that the
pregnant woman was still breathing as at the time of the accident, but later
died on the way to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba.
At the FMC, four of the victims laid
unconsciously at the accident emergency unit, while those who were confirmed
dead were conveyed to the mortuary section of the hospital by a vehicle
belonging to the Federal road safety Corps (FRSC).
An official of the FRSC, who confirmed
the accident, said several persons died in the auto crash.
