Lagos Wants Owners Of Property, Structures On Highways To Paint Them

OWNERS of buildings and other property along major highways, high streets and roads in Lagos State have been advised to begin immediate painting of such structures to complement the ongoing state-wide beautification projects and the seasonal decorations in preparation for the Yuletide This Commissioner for the Environment Tunji Bello,  speaking during the monitoring of projects across the state, expressed displeasure over the neglect and derelict state of most buildings along major highways and high streets such as Ikorodu Road, Agege Motor Road, Funsho Williams Avenue, Isolo Road, Mushin, Oshodi, Victoria Island, Apapa, Ikoyi  among others.
He also observed that the other category of neglected buildings on Lagos roads are those he referred to as “abandoned property” prevalent in areas such as Ilasamaja, Apapa, Creek Road, Ikoyi, and Victoria Island axis.  “Property along these corridors were abandoned by their owners, who had relocated and left such property at the care of their security guards who have converted them to okada parks and hideout for miscreants.
He further advised such owners of neglected buildings to come up and take ownership of their buildings, ensure they are put in proper shape and painted to complement the state government’s environmental regeneration programmes.
The commissioner noted that task of building a new and beautiful Lagos adorned with recreational parks and gardens and lush green lawns is the ultimate goal of this administration and collective responsibility of all and sundry.
