Yuguda Sacks Civil Servant Over Facebook Comment On His Son’s Wedding

A Bauchi civil servant Abbas Ahmed Fago, who commented on Facebook on the wedding of Idris Isa Yuguda, son of Bauchi state governor has been sacked by the state government.
This was contained in a letter of his sack signed by Ibrahim Shehu for the state head of service dated November 13, 2012, a copy of which was obtained by Blueprint yesterday.
The letter, with reference number GO/CSM/S/DIS/I/T.2 titled, ‘Termination of Appointment’, stated: “I am directed to refer to the Civil Service Commission’s letter No CSC/PRO/s/001/T.V dated November 1, 2012, and to convey the commission’s approval for your suspension and termination of appointment from Bauchi state service with effect from October 10, 2012 as your service is no longer required please.’’
Fago, a staff of the state Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, was said to have posted on his Facebook wall comments over expenses made on the wedding fatiha of the governor’s son.
The comment and Yuguda’s subsequent court action had generated a lot of bad blood from civil society, politicians and members of the public. The charges, according to the police first information report (FIR), was defamation of the present administration and cause of injurious falsehood.
Last Thursday, Fago was discharged when the team of lawyers led by the accused’s counsel faulted the two charges against the accused on the ground that the first charge consent of the Director of Public Prosecution, was not sought while in the second charge, only the aggrieved person, who is Governor Isa Yuguda, was the only person eligible to complain about the matter, substitute not the state commissioner for Justice and “you can’t substitute the duo with the commissioner.’’
The presiding chief Magistrate, Adamu Muhammad Kafin Madaki discharged Faggo and struck out the case.
