AN Ikeja High Court presided over by Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo Wednesday
granted Abdulahi Alao, who was charged for alleged petrol subsidy fraud, leave
to travel to the United States (U.S.) for medical treatment over undisclosed
ailment.
Alao is the third defendant in the suit
that also involves Mahmud Tukur, son of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, Alex Ochonogor and Eterna Oil and Gas Plc.
He, however, ordered that Alao must
return on or before February 25 when his matter would come up before Justice
Okunnu. He also ordered the EFCC to release his international passport, and the
defendant to return same to the anti-graft agency within 48 hours of his
return.
The court had earlier turned down oral
request by Tukur and Ochonogor through their counsel, Tayo Oyetibo (SAN),
asking for permission to travel to South Africa on business reasons. The court
asked them to present a formal application and adjourned till May 6 for trial.
Tukur, Ochonogor, Alao and Eternal Oil
and Gas Plc were docked before Onigbanjo for allegedly obtaining N1,899, 238,
946. 02 from the Petroleum Support Fund for a purported importation of 80.3
million litres of petrol.
