Emir
of Suleja, Malam Muhammad Awwal Ibrahim, has betrothed 11 princesses in one
day.
Speaking
at his palace in Suleja during the wedding, the emir urged the newly wedded
brides to help maintain the integrity of the palace.
“My
first advice to them is to ensure that they should be faithful to their
husbands, secondly to help us maintain the good name of this house, the palace,
and our integrity,” he said.
Ibrahim
said the brides should never make anyone “to see this house in a bad light.
They should know our values, and must be faithful and loyal to their husbands
without nagging”.
The
royal Fatiha was the last for the year 2012. It takes place twice yearly in
Suleja; in July and in December.
Blueprint observed that the grooms and the
brides were from the royal family, and as such their Fatiha was done by
royalties.
It
was also observed that their dowries were paid through the Emir and other gifts
were presented to them at the occasion.
A
member of the palace said the dowries for the year 2012 were fixed, which was
N30, 000 for each bride.
“The
dowry is meant for her alone, nobody is entitled to share it with her,” he
said.
However,
one of the couple, Kangiwan Zazzau of Suleja, Muhammad Lawal Alhassan, who got
married to Gimbiya Fatima Abdullahi Bisalla, said the marriage was based on
choice, “because they were compatible with each other”.
“We
made our choice and notify the elders about it and our intention of getting
married, and a date was fixed. Every one of us had to make an arrangement
against that date, and here we are,” the Kangiwa said.
It
was learnt that one week after their wedding, the brides were expected to be
confined to their matrimonial homes.
To
ensure success of the wedding, security was beefed up at all the nooks and
crannies of Suleja.
