THE
Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Lagos State Police Command, yesterday
paraded a suspect who had been presenting himself as the younger brother to the
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed D. Abubakar, in Lagos.
The suspect, Sanni Mohammed, 36, is a business man based at
Ketu, Lagos. He is known and reverred among fellow traders, especially at the
Ketu market, as the IGP’s immediate younger brother. He is known as ‘Sanni Mile
12′.
Unfortunately, traders at Mile 12 know the IG’s real relation
with the appellation, Sanni Mile 12, a relation of the police boss.
When the traders realised he was fake, they raised the alarm and
alerted the authentic Sanni Mile 12
It was learnt that when Sanni Mile 12 confronted the suspect, he
could not prove his relationship with the police IG.
Alarmed by what he saw, Sanni went to report the case at the
Ketu Police Station. It was later found out that the suspect had allegedly
duped many traders of whopping amounts of money under the pretext.
Policemen from Ketu arrested the alleged impersonator and he was
moved to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), at the State Police Command.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Umar Manko, when briefed, ordered
the officer in charge of SARS, Abba Kyari, a Superintendent of Police (SP) , to
investigate the matter.
Upon interrogation, the suspect who gave his real name as Sanni
Mohammed confessed further that he hailed from Kebbi State, far from the IGP’s
home state.
The command’s image maker, Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent
of Police (DSP) said the suspect would be charged to court today.
