PLEASE, DON’T KILL NIGERIANS ON DEATH ROW •JONATHAN APPEALS TO INDONESIAN PRESIDENT


PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan and his Indonesian counterpart, Suliso Bambang Yudhoyono, met in Abuja on Saturday with the Nigerian host pleading with his guest to stay execution in the case of convicted Nigerians awaiting death in Indonesia.
The Indonesian President, who arrived State House, Abuja at about 3.30 pm, was received by President Jonathan and was treated to a guard of honour mounted by the Brigade of Guards as well as a 21-gun salute.

The two countries are now to explore opportunities for an Agreement of Exchange of Prisoners and Mutual Legal Assistance between the two countries.
Both President Jonathan and his guest had earlier noted, with concern, the increasing number of Nigerians in detention, jails and death row in Indonesia for drug related offences and financial crimes.
After their bilateral talks, both leaders agreed to jointly tackle the menace insecurity, terrorism and cooperate in peace keeping operations.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, President Jonathan said they discussed “areas that we can work together, like food, agriculture, energy, politics and security, particularly, in international peace keeping operations”.
The Indonesian leader was accompanied by his wife, Ani.
