Except the
people of Delta North is ready to cede the state capital to other senatorial
districts in the state, they should not hope of becoming the governor of Delta
State in 2015.
Mr. Andy Asowata., a stalwart
of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a chat with Daily
Independent, said the governorship position would return to Delta
Central in 2015, go to Ijaw of Delta South, back to Delta Central, to Isoko,
back to Delta Central and Ndokwa of real Delta Province being asked to say
where they belong if they want to be considered for the governorship.
He said Delta North robbed
Delta Central and South of the state capital and that it was an injustice to
have created Delta State from the defunct Bendel State and gave the two
capitals to Benin Province, warning that the theory of power shift if at all
will be applied will not include the Aniomas but the Ndokwas.
Asowata, former Executive
Secretary, DESOPADEC, said Delta North should not try to compound issues by
seeking to govern Delta State while they still have the capital, blaming the
Aniomas for colluding with their daughter, the late Mariam Babangida, to take
the capital to Asaba that is not part of Delta Province.
According to him, ‘‘if you
leave the proper Delta province on the basis of which all states creation was
made in Nigeria, the Urhobos with eight local government areas in it and by
implication of sub division, would have gone into 16, but unfortunately the
Igbo speaking people of Benin Province were not only illegally hoisted on Delta
State but also given the state capital.
‘‘Let me make it clear that
nobody is denying anybody the fact that the Aniomas have the qualification to
contest for governorship but the indices on ground does not favour them, so
they should accept what fate brought on them. Except of course they want to
tell us they are ready to cede the state capital then they can get the
governorship,’’ Asowata posited.
