The
youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Wednesday kicked against Sultan of Sokoto, Dr.
Sa’ad Abubakar’s call for amnesty for Boko Haram members.
The youths took this position after the leadership of the apex
Igbo socio-cultural organisation declined to react to Sultan’s call for
amnesty.
Although the President-General, Gary Igariwey, said Ohanaeze
Ndigbo would react to the matter on Monday, after next week Sunday’s South-East
Governors’ Forum meeting, the youths said they would not relent in their effort
in ensuring that amnesty is granted any member of the Boko Haram group.
The National Organising Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths, Mr.
Okechukwu Isiguzoro, “Having held our meeting, our view is that the federal
government should first of all fight and conquer terrorism before anyone begins
to talk about amnesty.”
Isiguzoro told our correspondent in Enugu that whoever that is
calling for amnesty for Boko Haram members should have his head examined. He,
however, said, “Well, we are very optimistic that the federal government would
not give room to such talks.”
He added, “Moreover, granting them amnesty would expose
President Jonathan as being soft to the security challenges facing Nigeria.”
