WHY I PITCHED TENT WITH APC – OKOROCHA

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has explained his decision to pitch tent with the All Progressives Congress, APC; saying the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of which he was a founding member, has disappointed the people of the South- East and Nigerians.

Okorocha, who was addressing journalists in Government House, Owerri, on state and national issues, said he has nothing against President Goodluck Jonathan, but his party the PDP, which he said has ruled the nation for over 13 years without any dividend for the people.

According to Governor Okorocha; “There is need for a change, Nigerians are tired of the PDP, which is no longer what it used to be after failing to address the needs of Nigerians,” he said.

Declaring his interest and support for the merger and the new APC, Governor Okorocha described the party as a child of necessity, capable of providing the much needed change in the South-East geo-political zone.

He promised to win the South-East zone for the APC, asserting that the party would be good for democracy, as well as for the Nigerian people. He assured the people that APC would promote internal democracy since it would not support the imposition of candidates.

The governor also dismissed the misconception that the APC is a tribal party, saying that both General Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, are leaders who have the trust of their people, adding that it is also not true that Ndigbo cannot work with the Yoruba.

“APC is not a regional party and it is also not true that Ndigbo cannot peacefully co-exist in the same political party with the Yoruba. Both Buhari and Tinubu are true nationalists and not tribalists as been misconstrued by some enemies of progress.

“Again I want to inform you that APGA is not joining the APC but an equal stakeholder as a founding member and it is in the best interest of the South- East.”

He also called for the formation of a two party system, arguing that the introduction of a two party system would enable Nigerians strike the balance in governance, pointing out that any ruling party that could not perform must be changed.

Okorocha was of the opinion that if the country must have all round development at the state and local government levels, people of the rural community must be allowed to partake in decisions on the affairs that concerns them.
