After months of speculation on his governorship
ambition, former governorship candidate of defunct Democratic People’s Alliance
(DPA), Jimi Agbaje, has denied rumours of his alleged romance with Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP), saying he is still searching for a credible party
through which to realise his ambition.
Some national newspapers had been awash with news that a
chieftain of the PDP in Lagos and former National Vice Chairman (South-West),
Olabode George, had already presented Agbaje’s name to President Goodluck
Jonathan for consideration.
Some also claimed that the move to make Agbaje standard bearer
of PDP recently got a boost when the new chairman of the Federal Road
Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Ezekiel Olajide Adeniji, fixed a meeting between
Jonathan and Agbaje with the understanding of George.
But, speaking with Daily
Independent on Thursday,
Agbaje said though he is still considering the possibility of contesting the
2015 general elections, he is still weighing his option as to which political
party he will join.
“Though Jimi Agbaje is still looking at the possibility of 2015,
but I think my first priority is to join a political party, because in Nigeria
if you want to join politics, you must be on a political platform.
“And so, my priority at this point in time is to first look for
and join a political party. After that has been done, then we can start talking
about what Jimi Agbaje will be doing in 2015”.
Also speaking, a chieftain of PDP in Lagos, who spoke on
condition of anonymity, said the rumour that Agbaje has been pencilled down as
flagbearer of PDP is the handiwork of a former ambassador, who is hell bent on
flying the party’s flag in 2015, and has resolved to spreading the falsehood so
as to create disaffection among the party members.
