PRESIDENT
Goodluck Jonathan has approached the Senate to confirm the nomination of former
Senate President, Ken Nnamani; former Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro;
Justice K.M.O. Kekere-Ekun and 14 others for appointments into various
commissions.
The president, in a letter dated May 4,
2013 and addressed to the Senate President, wanted the Senate to confirm the
nomination of Senator Nnamani as the chairman of the governing board of the
Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).
Other members of the board, as nominated by
the president, included Mr Aminu Dikko (Director-General) North-West; Mrs
Comfort Saro Wiwa (South-South); Mrs Janet Febisola Adeyemi (South-West); Mrs
Yabawa Wabi (North-East); Honourable Musa Elayo (North-Central) and Mr A.U.
Kanu (South-East).
The president also wrote another letter,
dated May 4, 2013, asking the Senate to confirm the nomination of Mr Okiro as
the chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Other members of the commission, according
to the letter, included Mr Yakubu Mohammed (North-West); Justice Olufunke
Adekeye (retd) (South-West); Aisha Larai Tukur (North-East); Mrs Comfort Obi
(South-East); Chief Torngee Gem Toranyiin (North-Central) and Dr Otive Igbuzor
(South-South).
In another letter dated May 3, 2013,
President Jonathan also sought the nod of the Senate for the appointment of
Justice Kekere-Ekun as a justice of the Supreme Court, based on the
recommendations of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
The president, in yet another letter dated
May 4, 2013, notified the Senate of the withdrawal of the nomination of Mr
Adesoji Efuntayo as the secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC), due to “emergent circumstances” and to be replaced by Mr
Emmanuel Aremo.
President Jonathan, in another letter dated
May 6, 2013, wanted the Senate to confirm the nomination of Mr Adulphus Ekpe as
the Director-General of the National Lottery Commission, pursuant to the
provisions of Section 8 (1) of the National Lottery Act 2005.
