The
Inspector General Police, Muhammed Abubakar, has ordered the arrest of an
alleged notorious fraudster who has duped several Nigerians of millions of
naira while parading himself as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President
Goodluck Jonathan on Youth development. Saturday Newswatch learnt that
trouble started for Alhaji Aliyu Zakare, believed to be the son of a respected
Chief in Dutse, Jigawa State, when he allegedly swindled an
influential businessman in Lagos (names withheld) to the tune of N140 million,
after which he went into hiding. The businessman reportedly
petitioned I.G.P Abubakar, to help him track down the fleeing
Zakare. He thus presented all the documents such as
complementary cards and letter-headed papers which bore the insignia
of The Presidency and introducing Zakare as a Senior
Special Assistant to the President on Youth development.
Police authorities reportedly
detailed crack detectives to every part of the country to sniff out
the fake S.S.A. The long search paid off as he was traced to
his hide-out in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, where he was living like
a king and even allegedly acquired different kinds of exotic cars.
mmediately he was arrested the police were said to have also swooped on
the man who printed his identify cards, complementary cards and
letter-headed paper which bore the insignia of the presidency,
for interrogation.
Zakare and the printer are now being detained at the Kaura Police station, opposite Prince and Princess Estate in Abuja. His modus operandi, according to a source, is to approach big business organizations, introduce himself as a Senior Special Assistant to the President and one of the leaders of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and then present a letter of award of contract to supply rice, sugar or flour to the troubled northern states where Boko Haram insurgency has wrecked havoc.

Alhaji Zakare was said to
possess several high profile identity cards bearing insignia
of the Presidency with which he has allegedly duped several
businessmen across the country of several million of naira and/or
deceived them to supply trailers of rice, noodles and
spaghetti to his warehouses in Kaduna and Kano.
“He possess 17 cheque books of different commercial banks in the
country; bears different names; has relevant documents and identities
to back whatever he calls himself and has an uncanny air of
confidence and pride which even genuine Senior Special
Assistants to the President do not possess,” a source said. Alhaji
Zakare is also said to have duped major distributors
of a poplular noodles company of millions of naira and also
befriended a brand manager of the noodles company (name withheld)
to facilitate smooth perpetration of his fraudulent
activities within the group.
The romance between the brand
manager and Zakare is said to be giving her sleepless nights as she is still
unsure of the next action the group management might take against
her. Efforts to get the Force Public Relation Officer CSP Frank Mba to
confirm the arrest of Zakare were unsuccessful and the text messages sent to
him on the issue were not replied.
