Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has sacked
the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Bernard Okumagba, from office.
Consequently, the governor has reassigned
the Commissioner of Economic Planning, Mr. Olorogun-Kenneth Okpara, as the new
Finance Commissioner.
No reason was given for Okumagba’s sacking as of
press time on Thursday.
However, The PUNCH gathered that the
former Commissioner for Finance voluntarily resigned his appointment since he
is eyeing an elective position in 2015.
But, a statement from the Secretary to the State
government, Ovuozourie Macaulay, on Thursday said the removal of the commissioner
was a “minor cabinet reshuffle.”
The statement read, “Accordingly, Mr. Ken Okpara,
Commissioner for Economic Planning, has been reassigned to the Ministry of
Finance to replace Mr. Bernard Okumagba, who has been dropped from the State
Executive Council.”
