• Lagos Police swoop in on fake policeman, cultists
IT was the “end of the road” for a suspected fake policeman and cultists arrested by the Special anti-robbery squad of the Lagos State Police Command Wednesday.
The fake police officer, one Ben Okon, was arrested at Iyana Ipaja area wearing police uniform and intimidating commuters in the area.
A policewoman in the area who noticed his “unprofessional” behaviour, immediately requested to see his Staff Card. He was alleged to have immediately thrown a fake Staff Card in his possession into his mouth, chewed and swallowed it.
\The policewoman who also alerted his colleagues in the area arrested him. He was immediately taken to the police station where he confessed that he picked his rank and police badge at a beer spot in Lagos.
According to Okon: “I was arrested by a policewoman. I am a security guard with a company. I live in Agege. I actually got my police rank in the beer palour around Iyana Ipaja area. A nylon bag fell from someone that fateful day in the beer palour, when I opened it, I discovered a police rank and badge inside and took it to my house. I am a member of the Man-O-War organization. It was my commander who gave me the uniform.”
Okon who hails from Uyo in Akwa Ibom State told newsmen that he did not have the intention of committing a crime with the police uniform.
Meanwhile, for alleged involvement in cult activities, the police also arrested three suspects. The suspects were said to have caused sleepless nights for residents of Epe and its environs.
One of the suspects who told newsmen that he was a member of the Aiye Cult group noted that their meetings were usually held at nights in the bush at Aiyetoro area of Epe.
According to the suspect, one Olusote Olawole: “We were fighting the Eiye Confraternity. I went to charge my phone when the group attacked me. The police found ammunition in my pocket. I joined the cult group last year; I was actually forced into the group. We hold our meetings at Aiyetoro area of Epe. They usually call us on telephone whenever we want to hold a meeting.”
Lagos State Police spokesman, Mr. Damasus Ozoani who confirmed the arrest noted that the suspect claimed that the uniform was sewn for him by the Man- O-War organization.
