The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has said that only former presidents, vice presidents and heads of states are qualified to hold onto their diplomatic passports and enjoy the immunity attached to it for life. Other political appointees or officials of government cease to hold the document as soon as they are out of office.
NIS, further explained that the document entitles the personalities to some perks, such as passing through security with great ease, added that neither it nor the Ministry of Foreign Affairs determines who the president should invoke his sovereignty on.
