First civilian Governor of Plateau State, Chief Solomon Lar, is dead. Lar was said to have passed on in a US hospital early on Wednesday, where he had been undergoing treatment since January this year.
Born in Langtang, Lar was elected governor of Plateau State in 1979 on the platform of the Nigeria People’s Party while his tenure ended with the overthrow of the Shehu Shagari administration in a military coup, led by Gen Mohammed Buhari on December 31, 1983
Details of the death of the pioneer National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party were sketchy on Wednesday, but he was said to have been discharged from the hospital last week, but went into coma two days later and was placed on a life support.
Plateau State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Abraham Yiljap, told our correspondent that the family has informed Governor Jonah Jang of Lar’s death.
