Some policemen have finalised plans to embark on a strike following what they term illegal deductions from their salaries.
The policemen, who could not identify themselves for fear of reprimand from the police high command, made their plans known yesterday in a telephone text message which they circulated to fellow policemen, media houses and individuals.
The text message which LEADERSHIP also received read in part: “Notice, notice notice, AB/F/Dept. /Vol. 5/201400/2013; this is to inform all Nigeria Policemen that there will strike on 05/10/2013 if N10,000 remove out of our salary for uniform. This month if you go work on this day, you will have yourself to blame. Please send this message to ten policemen”.In a reaction to the planned strike, the force spokesman, Mr Frank Mba, told LEADERSHIP that he was not aware of the message doing the rounds. According to him, when policemen have any problems or complaints, he is the first person they bring their complaints to. If such things were to happen I’m usually the first person they contact. Even when they are angry or aggrieved, it’s me they refer to, either on Facebook or through other means of information. Even when they are having problem with their DPO it is me they complain to. But as I’m talking to you, this information is news to me,” he said.
