The official driver for former Deputy Minister of Communication, Victoria Hammah has been arrested for allegedly recording secretly her phone conversations.
Speaking to Citi News DSP Freeman Tettey of the Police Public Affairs Directorate confirmed the arrest of the driver, Lawrence Quayson said he was being held for questioning.
According to him, the police are still investigating the matter to establish the offence and details of the compliant. “A complaint was lodged, we invited him [Driver] and he came over; we have to detain him and then obtain caution statement from him.’’
“We are considering a bail for him; there is a likelihood of an immediate bail for him,’’ he added.
DSP Tettey said the police will establish where a secret recording is a crime or not, then the police will press further charges.
The 34 year old driver to the Ms. Victoria Hammah is believed to have recorded and leaked the tape which has led to the firing of the former Deputy Minister of Communications.
Ms. Hammah was relieved of her post on Friday after the leaked taped on which she is heard making a variety of comments about the NDC’s internal politics which embarrassed government.
