G-7 GOVS MEET IN SOKOTO TO TAKE STAND ON PDP CRISIS

Governors under the G-7 platform yesterday arrived in Sokoto ahead of their meeting today, where they are expected to take a stand on their continued membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or their defection to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, who confirmed the meeting in Yola yesterday, disclosed that the G-7 governors would conclude talks on whether to remain in the ruling party or look elsewhere.
Nyako told some women’s organisations in Adamawa who paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House, Yola, that the G-7 governors were committed to “justice and fairness”.

“I will be in Sokoto State today where we shall conclude our talks which will determine our fate. You know there are seven of us, but I can assure you that we are more than that. There are others who are fed up with the way things are being done in the PDP,” Nyako said.
The governor who reiterated his commitment to the crusade for justice said the authorities were desperate to get at him and were going about looking for excuses to frame him up together with his associates.
He accused those he called Abuja politicians of fuelling the political crisis in the ruling party following the imposition of candidates on the electorate without recourse to rule of law to serve their selfish interests.
He thanked the women for their support to his administration, assuring them that he would disappoint them.
In their speeches, leaders of women groups including FOMWAN, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) and market women assured the governor of their support.
They condemned the move to cause problem in the state and the country by some groups and persons.
Nyako’s wife, Dr Zainab Nyako, thanked the women for their support for the administration and assured them of its priority on women empowerment programme.
The G-7 governors’ meeting, according to an aide of one of the governors, was called to determine whether or not the state chief executives should defect to the APC following the visits of the APC leadership to some of their members.
The source disclosed that the defection of some of the governors of the ruling PDP to the APC had been concluded, but expressed concern that the plan might not work because not all the governors want to quit the PDP.
