LASTMA OFFICIAL CAUGHT ON TAPE COLLECTING BRIBE, DISAPPEARS

An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, who was caught collecting bribe from a motorist has disappeared.
The Lagos State government made this known, saying the officer would be punished.
A junior officer in the employ of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) was caught on tape while soliciting for gratification from a road user over some undisclosed traffic offence.
The recorded incident was sent online and to a television station.
In the tape, the LASTMA official insisted on collecting a bribe of N8, 000 but was offered N4, 000.
Though, the driver of the car, pleaded with him to accept the N4, 000 but the LASTMA official refused.
Following allegations of soliciting for gratification while on duty levelled against one of its traffic officers, the Lagos State Government vowed to prosecute the erring in the law court in addition to subjecting him to discipline in line with Public Service procedure.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, the Government said it would take appropriate action against the officer who, according to him, has not been found since the news broke.
The Government expressed regrets that the said officer could embark on such a disgraceful act in spite of the consistent training being given to all government officers and public servants in the state adding that it would take measures to bring the officer to justice.
“As we abide strictly by the rule of law, the State Government, as done in the past in similar circumstances, will take appropriate action to bring the said officer to justice and will not only pursue the Public Service Procedure but will ensure prosecution,” the statement said, adding that the said officer was yet to be found since the news of his alleged crime broke.
