The Pan- Igbo cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has said it has adopted the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, as the political party for Ndigbo and as such, would remain resolute not to join forces with the All Progressives Congress, APC and other existing parties in the country.
The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Anambra State chapter, Elder Chris Eluemuno, who disclosed this yesterday in Awka, said that the Igbo race needed to have its own political platform like the Yorubas which he said, established the APC. “If Igbos must have its fair share in the scheme of things in this country, it must have its own political party under which it will negotiate on any matter,” Eluemuno declared.
He described APGA as an Igbo party which all Igbos must work hard for its success, stressing that the need for Ndigbo to maintain a political platform cannot be over-emphasized, now that APGA has been able to provide such a platform for all Igbos to identify with.
He said that the just concluded Anambra State gubernatorial election result was a reflection of the will of the people of Anambra State, even as he admitted that although the people of the state loved Senator Chris Ngige, they did not want to follow him to the APC which had been identified with the Yorubas. Elder Eluemuno also condemned the attack on the Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Stella Oduah, by the Yoruba press, adding that the minister’s offence was that she elevated Enugu Airport to an international status and some people were not happy with that.
He therefore called on the President not to be intimidated by the attack, adding that Ohaneze Ndigbo would always give support to the Aviation Minister. He said: “We want to warn that if anything happens to that woman, the nation would not be at rest. She has done so much for the country and we cannot destroy what she had done over night”.
He also called for a stronger co-operation between the South-South and South- East zones of the country. On 2015 presidential election, Eluemuno called on all and sundry to support President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term in office, adding that the President had done so much for the South-East and the nation in general so much so that he deserved their maximum support for a second term in office, to enable him complete his programmes.
