A former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Chibudom Nwuche, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan not to succumb to intimidations, aimed at stopping him from seeking a second term tenure in 2015.
This was as he also described as sheer blackmail the agitation by some northern politicians that for the president to contest the 2015 presidential election would amount to vying for a third term.
Speaking at a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Elders and Stakeholders’ meeting in Ahoada West and Ahoada East local government areas on Wednesday, Nwuche said the agitation was inspired by political intrigues.
The former deputy speaker said inspite of several claims, the affected northern politicians have failed to provide a documentary evidence of the agreement Jonathan signed with them to the effect that he would only serve for only a term of four years.
“President Jonathan duly completed the tenure of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua who died in office. His first term, under the law, started in May 29, 2011.
“So, all the talk about Jonathan having already served his first term in 2005/2006 before contesting for the presidency in 2011 is sheer blackmail.
“When they realised that their position was not supported by the constitution, they turned around to say that Jonathan entered into a pact with some northern leaders to serve for only a term of four years as president,” he said.
