2015: POLITICIANS PLAN BRANDED RECHARGE CARDS •TO WOO VOTERS ON ELECTION DAY •GOVT AGENCIES INVESTIGATING POLITICIANS OVER FOREIGN CONSULTANTS

IT emerged on Thursday that some politicians, planning ahead of the 2015 general election, have devised a way by which branded recharge cards of telecommunications networks would be used to woo electorate during the election.
The plan, according to sources in the know, could be put to test as early as June and August elections in Ekiti and Osun states respectively.
Sources told the Nigerian Tribune that some agencies of government were already investigating some politicians said to have employed foreign consultants in a bid to ensure they won the next general election, as well as the elections in Ekiti and Osun states.
“Some politicians are moving faster than expected. There are fears that they are exposing the security of Nigeria to danger by employing foreign nationals with whom they discuss internal security situation of the country.

“The government at the centre cannot keep watching such developments, “ a source in the know told the Nigerian Tribune.
It was learnt that one of the strategies of winning the next election was the design of branded recharge cards which would be given out on election day, instead of money.
“One of the campaign strategies put on the table is the use of branded recharge cards.
“The party in question has already commenced consultations with some providers of Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) services,” a source said, adding that telecommunications providers in the the country would be expected to brand their recharge cards with the logo of the party.
The source further said the cards would be given out to voters instead of cash, with officials of the particular party said to have commenced strategic meetings in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) ahead of the elections.
