APC REGISTRATION: REGISTER OR BE DEREGISTERED, RIVERS GOVT TELLS NON-INDIGENES •TARGETS 800 NON-INDIGENES MEMBERSHIP

Rivers State government has told non-indigenes in the state, under the aegis of the Non-Indigenes Political Forum (NIPF), to actively participate in the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) registration or risked being deregistered as members of the forum.
This was as the government also disclosed that the Rivers State chapter of the APC was targeting, at least, 800 out of the 1.5 million non-indigenes in the state in the party’s membership registration exercise.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Commerce and Industries, Mr Chuma Chinye, while addressing a meeting of stakeholders, state officials and 23 local government co-ordinators of NIPF.
The above was contained in a statement issued in Port-Harcourt on Sunday by Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, media aide to Rivers APC interim chairman, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune.
According to the statement, Chinye, who is the leader of the forum in the state, said: “Our target in the ongoing APC membership drive is to ensure that we get 800 out of the 1.5 million non-indigenes resident in Rivers State and with enough commitment we can achieve that.”
The statement added that the commissioner, who is from Delta State, had directed NIPF members that any non-indigene residing in Rivers State, who is not registered with APC should be deregistered from the forum, warning that any such person would find it difficult getting the state government’s patronage.
“Politics these days is a serious business and we are not playing with the idea of ensuring that the APC forms the government come 2015, both in the state and at the national level.
“We have the number, we have the drive and we can’t afford to allow all that Governor Chibuike Amaechi has achieved these past six years to be wasted by the misguided Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) elements.”
