EX-IG, COOMASSIE, EMERGES NEW ACF CHAIRMAN

Former Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, was on Monday announced the new Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum while the former Military Administrator of Kebbi State, Col. John Ubah (retd,), as the Secretary-General of the apex northern socio-cultural organisation.
While delivering the ACF report on Monday, the outgoing Secretary-General, Col. Shehu Musa (retd.), explained that the organisation had been involved in some of the initiatives of the Federal Government, which were aimed at mitigating the security challenges in the north.

The outgoing Secretary General said in the report, “The ACF, being the foremost pan northern socio-cultural organisation, has been involved in some of the initiatives of the Federal Government which are aimed at mitigating the security challenges facing the North.
“At a point, the insurgency escalated in the North-East and the Federal Government realised that the use of military might alone was not enough to solve the crisis and people were calling on the government to have dialogue with the insurgents, the Federal Government appointed a committee under the Minister of Special Duties and once again a representative of ACF was nominated to the Committee.
“The effort of our Forum towards promoting peace and unity in the country neither stops with providing consultancy for the Federal Government nor with participation in committees commissioned by government. As part of our mandate, we initiated certain programmes which were aimed at promoting peaceful co-existence in our communities.”
