STOP POLITICISING MILITARY POSTINGS, ARMY WARNS

• Redeploys 107 senior officers, Navy 75 too
The Nigerian Army yesterday warned those it described as political speculators not to introduce politics into the military or incite servicemen aga
inst the leadership of the Armed Forces for any reason whatsoever. This was happening as the Army and Navy announced the redeployment of 107 and 75 senior officers respectively.
The Army explained that postings and reassignments by the military were routine exercises designed by the establishment to fill vacancies created by promotions or retirements and should not be used for ulterior motives such as campaigning for geo-political representation.
Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Olajide Laleye who addressed his maiden press conference in Abuja yesterday, frowned at the increasing “insinuations and mischievous interpretations which have trailed a purely professional, unbiased and thoroughly thought-out process” taking place in the military.
He condemned the rate of “unfounded speculation” in the air about recent postings in the Armed Forces and warned the people promoting such activity to stop trivializing or heating up the polity over a process, which has been used for several years to reinvigorate the military institution.

“Furthermore, due to the sensitive and security nature of postings and appointments of senior officers, it is desirable that the media and the public refrain from speculating on the matter in the print and electronic media,” the director charged.
He also disclosed that the military has recorded striking victories in the sustained counter-insurgency operations in the north east and northwest parts of the country in line with the Federal Government policy of restoring normalcy in the geo-political zones.
The director appealed to residents of Abuja and other areas of the country where unusual movement of soldiers may be noticed to remain calm, explaining that such troop movements were part of the 2014 Nigerian Army Annual Medical and Physical Fitness Exercise aimed at assessing the health and combat readiness of personnel.
Brigadier-General Laleye also disclosed that the Army has embarked on fresh postings of about 107 officers between the ranks of major general and colonel to strengthen its various units and infuse new ideas in the running of its business throughout the country.
Thirty-six major generals, 52 brigadier-generals and 18 colonels were affected by the lasted postings, he said.
Meanwhile, the farewell activities lined up for the former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Onyeabo Azubuike Ihejirika, have commenced with an inter-denominational church service at the All Saints Church, Mogadishu Cantonment and will end with a pulling out parade tomorrow.
