FCT MINISTER ALLAYS FEARS AS GAS EXPLOSION ROCKS SHOPPING COMPLEX

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed has allayed fears amongst residents and the general public that what happened Thursday in Abuja was a gas explosion and not a bomb explosion contrary to rumours making the rounds.
An explosion had earlier rocked the Area 1 Shopping Complex, Garki, causing panic amongst some residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) who thought it was a bomb that exploded.
Accordingly, Mohammed enjoined residents and visitors in the territory to continue with their legitimate activities without fear as what happened was only a gas explosion at a shop located at Shagari Plaza opposite the ever busy Area 1 Shopping Centre in Garki District.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to ignore the rumours of a bomb explosion in Abuja as baseless and false,” he said.
The gas cylinder explosion was said to have occurred at an open gas shop when the seller was refilling a cylinder for a customer at about 4.45pm sparking a fire, although there were no casualties.
Men of the FCT Fire Service arrived promptly at the scene and put out the fire thus preventing it from spreading.
An eye witness account disclosed of a loud bang was heard Thursday prompting people to scamper for safety.
