JONATHAN DIRECTS FRSC TO REMOVE OBSTRUCTIONS ON HIGHWAYS

President Goodluck Jonathan has directed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to remove all obstructions such as abandoned vehicles on the highways to enhance free flow of traffic across the country.
Jonathan, who gave the directive at the FRSC’s 5th Annual Lecture Series at the weekend in Abuja, also commended the Corps for introducing a toll-free number and increasing the ambulance points across the country for the purpose of enhancing rescue operations.
The President, represented by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, said the award of the policy management system to the Corps by the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) in 2013 was a testimony of the reform that took place in the system, which must be sustained with vigour to guarantee the safety of lives of the citizenry on the roads.
He said the establishment of FRSC about 26 years ago was a demonstration of government’s commitment to road safety management, adding that his administration would continue to demonstrate political will in safety management issues.
“Since the commencement of this administration, we have remained focus to the ideal of road safety which I demonstrated by my personal launch of the FRSC standardization scheme in 2011”, he said.
The President, who pointed out that road safety is not Federal Government’s project alone, urged stakeholders, including non-governmental organisations to collaborate and participate actively in road safety activities with government to ensure greater success.
