INSECURITY NOT CAUSED BY ISLAM, MUSLIMS - SULTAN

Sultan of Sokoto and President–General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, urged Muslims yesterday to rise against insurgency by condemning any form of criminal activities in country.
The Sultan, who spoke in Lagos at the commissioning of Al-Hujjaj Central Mosque in Lekki, also said insecurity across the country was not instructed by Islam and Muslims, because Islamic propagates peace and unity among people.
“We are all aware of the insecurity in our country, we are all aware of the bad name given to Islam in form of that insecurity and we are all aware as Muslims that insecurity is not instructed by Islam and is not done by Muslims,” Alhaji Abubakar said.

“It is done by individuals and criminals. We must all rise up as Muslims always to condemn terrorism and whatever insurgent activities carried out and tried out to spare the name of al-Islam. We have always said Muslims are totally against people who commit such atrocity in the name of Islam; we have condemned it and we will continue to condemn it until the almighty Allah will condemn those who have done that straight into jahanaman (hell fire),” he added.
The Sultan urged Muslims to pray for the restoration of peace and those perpetrating evils in Nigeria, while calling on them to follow the dictates of the holy Qur’an and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as guidelines for their daily lives.
Alhaji Abubakar, who cautioned Muslims against fighting in correcting bad image being given to Islam and Muslims said: “we don’t have to carry arms to fight anybody to protect Islam; we need to commit ourselves to be able to serve Allah and I want to call on all Muslims to dedicate the entire month of Rajab in prayers before Shaaban and Ramadan and try as much as possible to fast.”
